Overnight Snowmobile Tours

We have a few options for overnight snowmobile tours although these are only available in our low season...i.e. from the 3rd week of March until mid-May, (depending on snow conditions).

Driving snowmobiles on some of the many thousands of kilometres of snowmobile trails that criss-cross this remote region is an exciting and unforgettable experience and of course it is a great way of getting far out in nature in order to truly experience the best of the northern lights.

FYI: Unless you are already purchasing a husky product from us, then a minimum of 4 people are needed for this tour. You can, of course, cover the price for 4 pax in order to make sure that the tour runs.

Overnight at the Palokoji Trappers Cabin with either c.40km, 60km or 80km of snowmobiling across the two days.

The shortest version of this snowmobile tour generally starts at 4.30pm (after the arrival of the afternoon bus) and finishes before midday on the second day. The longest version starts at mid-day and finishes after midday on the second day.

This is a good option for someone looking for an introductory snowmobile experience without too challenging terrain (unless there has been a recent snowfall!) since the tracks are relatively easily if they have been recently maintained. It is also a good option for someone wanting to simply relax in a very cozy, comfortable cabin in the middle of nowhere.

This tour is also a great choice for folk who want an exclusive private experience, since there are unlikely to be too many other groups on the trails and we will for sure be alone at night. Most of our guests enjoy utilising the cabin snowshoes and wandering around on the frozen rivers and taiga landscapes near to the hut in the evening or morning. The cabin can sleep a maximum of 8-people but is more comfortable for 6.

Overnight at the Aurora Cabin.

This product is designed for those whose primary focus is to spend an unforgetable night in a traditional wilderness kota in winter. The snowmobile is just the means by which we reach the otherwise inaccessible cabin on a high hilltop.

This product starts in the early evening so that people can arrive at the homestead on the afternoon bus. We will have all of the equipment and food prepared and ready to go so once you have had your kit and clothing checked, we will head out into the wilderness.

Although the cabin is relatively close to our base (only c. 10km away) it is in a pretty wild area, perched right on the top of a hill. Bear footprints have been found there in Spring and we have twice seen elk outside. It is also, obviously, (aka hence the name!) a great place from which to view the aurora!

The night will be an authentic Lappish experience, with clients sleeping in winter expedition sleeping bags on reindeer covered benches around a warm central fireplace. Lappish food will be served and a good time had by all. The guide will spend the night with you in the cabin and accompany you back to base the next morning after a hearty breakfast.

Distance and c. Duration: A c. 10km snowmobile tour each day and a night spent in a traditional wilderness kota in which you will be served traditional Lappish food (An additional 20km loop with the snowmobile might also be possible the following morning depending on our schedule).
Price: Shared snowmobile: €250 per person.
One person / snowmobile: High Season €400 Low Season €300
Child: €200 per person (whether riding pillion or pulled in a snowmobile sleigh).
Price includes: a snowmobile suit and boots upon prior request, a helmet and the snowmobile / snowmobile sleigh as appropriate.

Overnight at Nakkälä / Galdotievo with c. 110km of snowmobiling across 2 days.

This 2-day tour combines our high tundra and Näkkälan trails and participants need to be fit in order to enjoy the long days. The tour starts at 10am on the first day and returns around 4.30pm to 5pm on the 2nd day. We have a choice of two cabins that we can stay at along this route depending on group size, cabin-style preference and cabin availability. One is a wilderness cabin with no electricity or running water in the Saami village of Näkkäla. The second is in a set of cabins close in the last settlement before the Norwegian border which have electricity and running water. It is difficult to book this safari 'last minute' since cabin availability is often limited.

Distance and c. Duration: c. 110km of snowmobiling across two days, with a night spent in one of two cabin options.
Price: Shared snowmobile: €460 per person.
One person / snowmobile: High Season €660: Low Season €560
Child: €400 per person (whether riding pillion or pulled in a snowmobile sleigh).
Price includes: a snowmobile suit and boots upon prior request, a helmet and the snowmobile / snowmobile sleigh as appropriate.
