Cookie came to us in the summer of 2017 from a Norwegian racing kennel. Just before she came she had mated with another dog called Dole. We had a big decision to make about keeping her pregnancy or not, when she came. On the one hand, it immediately introduced a new line of dogs to the kennel and on the other, we had one already pregnant mother which had been planned and the dog that we really wanted to have pups from that summer, was still to mate so it a question mark over whether or not we should still mate with Serbma.
After much deliberation with the vet, and a guarantee that there were 2-3 pups per existing pregnancy only (she was so certain that she said that any pups over 10 across the two litters would have free veterinary care for life), we figured that together there would be a similar number of pups to in one normal pregnancy so we could afford to keep Cookie's too.
Cookie's pups were truly monsters in terms of growth rate over the first few weeks. Although not the smartest or cutest as pups (Saturn's had those acolades) - and they all looked the same - we have a feeling that they might actually turn out to be quite good adult sleddogs.
